Waikamoi Preserve

It was a fabulous week at the Waikamoi Preserve! Maui A (aka Maui Soujahs) worked alongside Site Manager Pat Bily to remove the invasive kahili ginger. Our team hiked through the beautiful wetland forest to reach remote areas to aid in controling the kahili ginger explosion. We also visited Hosmer's Grove to remove the Florida Blackberry. We came across i'iwi, apapane, ulehu ferns, akala (native Hawaiian raspberry), maile, and so many other native birds and plants. Pat Bily is incredibly knowledgeable and shared all his mana'o with us regarding the forest. It felt great to work hard and see our progress. We have a great team and know how to work hard and still have fun. It's been such a great opportunity to spend time in the Waikamoi Preserve. We all have a newfound appreciation for our native plants and our responsibilities within our Maui community.
